CRY within Cone of Silence!!!!!

Hi folks, off lately my work has kept my plate full, Writing on my blog was almost forgotten, but it had become imperative to listen to my voice within after I was done watching the show “satyamev jayate” today morning , I was bound to pen down my thoughts about the same topic. The topic was about child abuse, its implication, and loopholes in our judicial system, it was not just a show, it was one hour mockery of our water proof legislation and judiciary system, not without sparing anemic or weak parents who succumb to social pressure, a tight slap to their faces.  Being a writer I feel it’s my moral obligation to express my views on this delicate yet important topic and somewhere find a solace in my distress. I was not always keen on writing earlier; my inspiration of writing was implanted after I watched this soul-stirring movie called “The Freedom Writers”. If you have not watched it, I would recommend you do that soon. The movie is like a pill that incites’ your inner awareness, it will make you realize no matter what color, skin, religion or thinking you have we all have a great soul, all we require to do some time is just to clean it, which brings me back to the moral of the show, the whole idea of the show is too clean the dirt, from within, from around us and sometimes from places we feel ashamed of.

After watching the show I was acquainted with the fact, that according to Indian child sexual abuse report: 2007, 53% Indian children are victims of some form of child sex abuse, in which to my complete surprise %53.00 of boys are sexually abused, which is more than girls. And it might also surprise you that most of the cases, victims fall prey to abuser within family. In our country where we are thought to respect our elders no matter what, just makes another reason for a troubled voice to be silenced.  I am not saying we should not respect them but as it was said in the show that we need to teach our children to respect the elderly behavior and not the age, in other words the way our elders behave with children.

So just two days before the show was aired, Rajya Sabha had passed a bill under women and child development minister Krishna Tirath, with also stating the necessity of making the act stringent. According to the study by her ministry in 13 states, 33% children said they have been sexually abused. A Aftermath thought, I personally fail to understand that these studies were either so complicated that it took them so long time to even think of amending it or media have to enlighten every dark paths for our government to see a better India, Anyways ? , We all know what the truth is and I am glad that it always prevails, but not without an effort though.
So this is my effort to spread awareness about child abuse and I will be definitely updating the progress of this particular amendment.

Facts YOU need to KNOW!!! –
The minister said the Bill has provision for the state governments to set a court of session to be a Special Court to try the offences under the Act. Tirath informed officials that the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Bill which has been passed by the Cabinet and will be re-introduced shortly in the Rajya Sabha
"Whoever commits penetrative sexual assault on children shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which shall not be less than seven years but which may extend to imprisonment for life and shall also be liable to fine." (My personal view on this is that any form of sexual assault or abuse should be equally punishable under maximum sentence as any type of abuse does not just harms you physically but also mentally)
It also states, "Whoever uses a child for pornographic purposes shall be liable for rigorous imprisonment which may extend to five years and shall also be liable to fine and in the event of second or subsequent conviction with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years and also with fine".
Also one of the important information is if you come across any sexual abuse case which you feel there is a need of higher authority to be involved in it, you can dial “1098”, it’s the first helpline number for child protection, and not only it protects against child abuse, but also
Children whose families are in crises
             Mentally challenged children
Children in conflict with the law
Street children and youth living alone on the streets
             Domestic help, especially girl domestics
Child victims of the flesh trade
             HIV/ AIDS infected children
Children who are victims of substance abuse
